Process Explorer is a freeware computer program for Microsoft Windows created by Sysinternals, which was acquired by Microsoft Corporation.

Process Explorer is a system monitoring and examination utility and can be used as the first step in debugging software or system problems.

Process Explorer can be used to track down problems. For example, it provides a means to list or search for named resources that are held by a process or all processes. This can be used to track down what is holding a file open and preventing its use by another program. Or as another example, it can show the command lines used to start a program, allowing otherwise identical processes to be distinguished. Or like Task Manager, it can show a process that is maxing out the CPU, but unlike Task Manager it can show which thread (with the callstack) is using the CPU – information that is not even available under a debugger.

It is really surprising that people ignore backing up their data, even though its importance keeps getting stressed by all and too often. Normally, people start backing up their data, only after they have lost it at least once. I, myself, belong to this unfortunate category. Once I lost my valuable files (which included my java code files), I painfully realized the importance of data backup. Then I started looking for a suitable backup tool. I tried a few freeware and trialware programs for this purpose, but somehow, none satisfied my needs. Finally, I decided to write my own program and this backup utility is the result of that effort. AKGBackup™ is a backup program written entirely in Java. As a result, it has the advantage that it should run on any platform as Java is a language having cross platform portability as one of its strong points. It is an utility for backing up your files on a different hard disk drive, network drives, floppies, different partition of the same disk drive or any media your operating system can write to. Recuva (Windows)

Recuva is a freeware data recovery program, developed by Piriform, and runs under Microsoft Windows Vista, XP, 2003, 2000 and 98. Windows 7 support is preliminary, with more developments coming soon. It is able to recover files that have been "permanently" deleted and marked by the operating system as free space. The program can also be used to recover files deleted from flash/USB drives, memory cards or MP3 players.

Recuva was described by vnunet.com as an "effective tool for undeleting or salvaging files we sent for recycling and deleted, in the past". The program works on both FAT and NTFS file systems.

As with other file recovery programs Recuva works by looking for unreferenced data, but if the operating system has written new data over a deleted file then recovery will often not be possible.
